BRIGHT NIGHTS
Our Bible Study decided that we would have a "Family Night." Although Kev and I don't have any kids, we sure do enjoy hanging out with the kids of the other families in our group. We wondered what to do and one of our members, Tara, made the suggestion that we do the Stanley Park Christmas Light Train. I was thrilled with the idea, because I have wanted to do it since I moved up here but had never had the chance. We decided that we would meet for dinner before hand and then head down to Stanley Park to see the gorgeous light displays from the cute little train. Dinner was a fun affair with 8 adults and five kids under the age of 6! Our food was delicious-of course, since one of the members of the group is the son of the owner! Conversation flowed and I loved every minute of it. I loved watching the kids run from spot to spot at the table to talk and color and play with each other. I loved hearing the guys in the group tease one another. I loved talking with the women of the group about the challenges of being a mom. I have much to learn from them for my future life! Whenever that time comes I will have many great examples to look up to.
After dinner we all piled into the car and drove down to Stanley Park. It was cold, but we grabbed our blankets, mittens, gloves, scarves and bundled up. As we waited in line for our turn to go on the train the kids enjoyed looking at Santa in the little house and I even had a debate with J. about whether or not the elf next to the window was too big to "REALLY" be an elf! 
The train was GREAT fun. 
The light displays were amazing, and we saw them not a moment too soon, for on Thursday night the great storm arrived...THE STORM
Thursday night we went to bed hearing all about this big storm that was supposed to arrive. We have had some crazy weather since the beginning of November, so we didn't really think much of it...until about 3 a.m. that is. I awoke at 3 to the sound of howling wind, snapping branches, bangs, booms, and just general scaryness! The noises were so loud, and the power kept going on and off. We knew we weren't going to be getting much sleep! We laid in bed listening to the howling of the wind outside for more than an hour before it finally slowed down a bit and we drifted off to sleep. I awoke the next morning to the sound of ONLY my cell phone alarm. I had set it just in case the power went out, and it had. I stumbled my way into the bathroom in absolute pitch black. Let me tell you, our basement suite is DARK without power! The bathroom has no windows, so I showered in the absolute dark and then finally found some candles and got ready by candlelight. It was interesting. By the time I left for work it was still really dark. I couldn't see much, except that there were A LOT of branches in the driveway. I didn't have time to move them, so I just had to drive over them. Luckily I made it out. I came home that afternoon to find out that Kev's driver's side window had been shattered. He also had a huge dent in his car. My car had three dents on the roof and the neighbor's house had a huge tree on top of it! Our power stayed out for three days...from Thursday night to Sunday morning. We were so happy when it came back on! I didn't know how much we relied on it until it was gone! We spent the weekend mostly at his parents' house. It was nice! They made us dinner, we played Rook and we just had a good time! Here are some photos of the aftermath of the storm! We later learned that the winds reached 100 mph!
NEW BABY E. Today was my favorite day so far this week. I got to FINALLY see my friend Jen and her new daughter, E. She is amazing. I have never seen such a small baby...she is so, so, so precious. I can't even express it in words. What a beautiful, beautiful baby. She was so amazing, such a miracle! Jen was a generous mom, and she let me hold her for quite awhile. This was a true gift, because at this time Jen doesn't really get to hold her much. E. was premature and she has been in the hospital since she was born almost two weeks ago. It was so wonderful to see Jen. I have really missed seeing her every day. I didn't realize what a good friend she had become to me and it was so good to just see her and catch up with her. I have to say, though, it was her beautiful daughter that simply captured my heart! Thanks for sharing her with me today, Jen!
So, wow, what a week! In just five days we will be seeing my family in South Dakota! I can't believe that the time is almost here. We have much to do before then. We are especially looking forward to Friday night and seeing his brother again. He's flying in for Christmas and we look forward to catching up with him. Then it's into the car and onto the road for the long drive home. I find that I always really enjoy that time. It's a great chance to catch up with Kevin, and I love just reading my magazines, listening to the radio, and talking with my sweet hubby. Just a few more days!!!!!
