Happy Valentine's Day!

Well, I have to say it...Happy Valentine's Day! I remember Valentine's Days the most from when I was in university. I was a Resident Assistant in one of the halls and I also worked at the front desk of the same hall. On Valentine's Day, working at that desk felt like sitting in the middle of one of those coolers at a florist shop that was chock full of flowers! There were so many arrangements for the various girls living in the halls. I wasn't seeing anyone at the time, and have to admit, I wasn't always chipper about the day! Each year that I was an RA, however, I had a program where I took the girls on my floor that didn't have plans-which were quite a few-and we would get all dressed up. I made reservations far in advance for one of the nice restaurants in town and we would go for a great dinner. Then I finished the night by giving them a rose. It was always one of my favorite programs throughout the two years I was an RA.

Now, Kev and I aren't HUGE on Valentine's Day. It seems to be a very busy day, so we always end up going out either the weekend before or the weekend after. This year we did the same. He took me down to KOBE Japanese Steak House last Saturday night. We love that place...it's one of those places where the chef cooks right in front of you, flips the food around, makes flaming onion towers, and all the other fun stuff. We joined our friends Chris and Seren for the night and had a great time. My steak was delicious! We got even more than we usually do, and, as always, we ordered the fried rice as well. Kevin had also surprised me that morning with some beautiful flowers! My favorite flowers are lilies, and he always makes sure that any arrangement he buys has lilies in it. I have been enjoying them all week, and they still look beautiful today, without the cost of being actual Valentine's Day flowers.

My favorite thing about Valentine's Day though???? Kevin's home-made cards! The first year we were together, he was working at an elementary school. The kids he was working with were making valentines cards with construction paper, so he decided to make me one. I was so thrilled with it, that he has repeated the tradition each year, and each year they get bigger and more mushy...of course I love them! He's a great writer, and the words he fills the cards with always fill my eyes with tears!

Tonight we'll spend the night at home, eating our chicken, rice, and corn, and watching the Canucks game. I'm happy with all of that, and I'm looking forward to my homemade card!!!
