Today he did it! Rusty officially pulled himself to standing. He has been doing it on smaller things for awhile now. We have short boxes that he could use to pull to standing and he could do it using the rails on our bed, but he was having trouble getting up using the couch. Today, he just did it like it had never been a problem before! He was sitting on the floor and the next thing I knew I was looking over and he was standing up! He also used the sliding glass door to stand up. I can't believe how big my little boy is getting. He has been doing various things like this for awhile now, and he is always SO proud of himself when he accomplishes something!
We are starting to use baby sign language with him as well. I have been trying the symbol for milk with him for some time now and suddenly today, when I did it, he did it back! TWICE! I have no idea if he will do it tomorrow or not, but it was pretty cool! He has also started communicating in other ways. Yesterday his nana and I finally figured out that when he blows out through his mouth it is his way of saying no most of the time. If there is something that he doesn't want, he blows out. For example, I offered him his water once and he took it fine, I offered it to him later and he blew out through his mouth. He does that with other things as well. It's crazy to see how he figures these things out.
I am head over heels for Rusty. He is such a great kid. We are constantly laughing and smiling with him and he just brings incredible amounts of joy into our lives. I am very excited to head home in a few weeks and share him with my family, and especially excited for June 9th, when my big sis arrives to spend an entire week with us!
Way cool that he pulled himself up. We had a playdate today and the little girl here was pulling herself up on everything. RJ watched her with such concentration. He was jealous I think!!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if RJ will start signing back to us soon. We've been doing the sign for "hungry" since he was five or six months old. He can't do it yet but I'm pretty sure he knows what it means...he opens his mouth. I'm hoping he'll be able to do the sign so he can tell us when he's hungry. That would rock!! Good job with the signing Rusty!!!!
It's amazing to see them develop, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteIt feels like Jorja just learned to sit and now she can stand?! Crazy.
I just began doing some sign as well. She does the sign for milk but I don't think she correlates it with milk yet! :)
We look forward to seeing you next week!!! Let's hope it's nice and we can head outside?
