Weekend Update: Part Three-A Random Trip to the States

What?  I know what you're thinking.  Didn't you already go to the States once this weekend?  The answer would be yes.  Perhaps we would have wished that it had only been once, but the day actually didn't end up too badly.

Remember Saturday night when I said I went to Kevin's hockey game?  As I was driving away to go and get my hot chocolate from Tim Horton's-on which I FINALLY won a roll up the rim thank you very much!-Kev noticed that the back tire was almost flat.  Yep, basically flat.  We have sensors on our tires and it had said there was a low tire, but we thought it was the front one, which has had a veerrryyyyyy slllloooooooowwwww leak for forever.  We were ignoring it.  Yikes!  We are blessed, seeing that it could have ended up in an accident along the freeway on the way to his game.  I zipped over and filled it with air, only to have it be almost flat again by the time the game was over.  Ugh.

We knew we needed new tires on this car, but we had been putting it off.  We weren't thrilled about changing four tires on the Rav, we knew it would be expensive.  Kev had done the calls.  This weekend, however, while we were down there, he checked out Walmart and found it would be over $200 cheaper to get our tires there.  Done!  Plus, because they are made in the good old U-S-of-A we don't have to pay duty!  Yahoo!

So, it was off to the States again today, this time with Rusty in tow.

How do you keep a toddler entertained at Walmart while your tires are being changed, as well as the oil?  Why, you give him a ball, of course!  We went to the toy aisle, grabbed a ball, and let him chase it around the store for awhile.  He was in heaven!  Thankfully the store wasn't very busy and he also was doing a great job of listening to us.  He had a blast!

After some fun running around the store, we put him in the stroller and walked him down to Taco Bell.  We wanted to try out their Fresco Menu.  Since our Taco Bells up here don't have that-which is shocking, actually, considering Canada usually prides itself on being so healthy-we had to wait until we were down there.  It was really good!  So much less fat and many fewer calories, but all of the flavor!  Rusty LOVED his fresco bean burrito.  Give that kid practically anything in a wrap and he will eat it!

By the time we hit the road for home it was way past the monkey's naptime.  Thinking he would nap in the car, we had made plans with our good friends for dinner and hanging out.  When we crossed the border and he still hadn't napped we decided to go ahead and stick with our plans anyway...and he was a ROCK STAR!

He handled the day so well, and I continually fall more and more in love with this little sweethart.  He is starting to understand jokes, and loves to be silly.  He makes funny faces, does silly things to make us laugh, and just loves on us.  This huggy, sweet boy has made our lives so much richer, we are blessed indeed.

  1. Now that the boys are getting older, they can handle longer days of entertainment...and sometimes even without major meltdowns!

    Good job Rusty!

  2. Wraps are really popular here too, but sometimes I'm told, very specifically, that it must be left opened.
