The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

I know...I've been a total slacker on posting lately.  It's been interesting around here.  I feel that I can pretty much sum it up into three well known categories:  the good, the bad, and the ugly.

I'll start with the good.  There is a lot of good.  Most of it revolves around lovely household changes that have been a long time coming.  In some ways I feel really overwhelmed with all of the goodness and so incredibly overblessed.  I am thankful!  The Good:

  • We finally got a new fridge!  Ours has been leaking water onto the floor once or twice a day for the past year and a half.  We have had two different repairmen in to look at it and both told us that it was the same problem and that it could not be fixed.  We dealt with it because we just weren't willing to put forth the funds to buy a new one at that time.  We did a ton of research and finally the timing was right to buy a new one.  Kev picked the one he wanted and thanks to Canada doing Black Friday deals as well as the States we got a beautiful, brand new french door/bottom freezer refrigerator for a great deal!  It was $600  off!  We did have to remove our overhead cupboard to fit it in, but we felt that was worth it, and we will be putting a shelf up above.
  • We also had Christmas come early in our household.  Kev's parents blessed us with an incredible gift for Christmas this year, a deep freeze!  It is something that I have wanted for a long time, and I know that it will make my life much easier and give me the ability to make meals ahead of time and freeze them, bulk up on great deals at the grocer, store berries and baked goods.  It's going to be fantastic.  The one that they chose for us is so great!  It has these dividers in it that will keep it super organized and very functional.  It is a blessing indeed!
  • We finally got our gas fireplace in our family room!  It is something we have wanted to do since we moved in, but wanted the timing and the finances to be right.  It makes the room SO cozy and warm, and we moved in the hand me down couches that Kev's parents gave us.  Last night I went down there for a bit and just laid on the couch, feeling warm and staring into the fire, feeling peace.  I feel so blessed by this room.
  • We have really enjoyed the Christmas season with Rusty this year.  Instead of putting candy in his advent calendar this year we have done a series of gifts as well as activities!  One of the activities was the Kids' Fun Night at the mall.  He loved going with his friend and writing letters to Santa, decorating cookies, and making crafts.  We also have taken him to the Carousel, as well as other fun things.  His gifts have all been new books, which he loves!  He really enjoys reading with us, and the books are great excuses to snuggle together before bed.

  • Another good was our Auntie Lee Lee making it through her first level of her teacher training!  It has been a long time coming and we are really proud of her.  We celebrated last week by making her a dinner that she enjoyed as well as a delicious cake idea that I found on Pinterest!

  • Of course, the true GOOD in our lives is our Lord and his Son.  At this time of the year we really focus on the blessings he has given us and the sacrifice of his son for us.  We also thank him so much for our kiddos.  Man these guys make us smile all of the time.  I am totally in love with my THREE guys!
The Bad:
  • Our kiddos are sick.  Sick, sick, sick.  Last night I was up with Rusty for two hours while he coughed and wheezed for breath.  We finally took him in to the doctor this morning and he has croup, bordering on something worse.  She is giving him a special one time dose of a medicine that is supposed to stop it in its tracks.  We hope this works, especially before we leave for South Dakota for Christmas.  We also hope little Rocky does not get worse and that Nana stays well!  She watched our sweet Rocky while I took Rusty to the doctor, and we are praying that she doesn't catch what has been going around.
The Ugly:
  • The ugly, just to round it all out-our carport!  Ha ha!  It is full of cardboard, styrofoam and two old fridges that Hydro will be picking up on Thursday.  Even though it looks a mess right now, we know it is all because of the good things that have been going on, so we don't mind it too much.  We will get everything taken care of in due time.
