The Doctor's Bill

I'm off to the doctor in just about 15 minutes. I never enjoy going to the doctor, in fact, I usually put it off until the last possible moment. Since coming to Canada it has become a bit easier. The reason for this is that in Canada, going to the doctor is free! Now, I KNOW, I KNOW...it's not really free. I know that I pay for it somehow in my taxes, but I have to admit...it's pretty nice to go in, slap down my Care Card, and not pay a cent. Going to the doctor is not a big thing where I have to make sure that I have the right amount of money just to GO. If there are tests that have to be done, I don't have to worry where the money for that is coming from. I've already paid for it without even knowing! In the States I would have been paying at least a 20% co-pay, if not more. I also have to say that some day when I have children it will be nice to leave the hospital owing nothing, rather than leaving behind my arm and part of my leg to pay for the bundle of joy in my arms.

I know that there are certain things that are not good about a social government, but I know that there are things that are good as well. I'm learning a lot, and though I miss some things about America, such as knowing EXACTLY when we will be voting on a new leader for our country, there are things that I don't miss either. A doctor's bill is one of the biggest!

So, when I walk into the doctor's office this evening and walk out with the same amount of money in my checkbook, I will choose to be thankful. We'll talk about the other political pros and cons some other day!
