Yes, I admit it. I was once and will always be a Jackrabbit! My alma mater, the South Dakota State University Lady Jackrabbits, are kicking some serious heiny in the WNIT right now! Tonight they beat the Indiana Hoosiers by a score of 60-53 at my old stomping grounds. I remember sitting in those very same bleachers at Frost Arena for many games cheering the "Go, Jacks, Go!" chant as loud as I could. There was nothing like being wedged in with 6000 other screaming fans. The best games were the SDSU/USD games. I remember one game in which a USD fan got thrown out for throwing a dead, frozen Jackrabbit on the court during a time out. I also remember waiting for hours in a line up to see the men in their quarterfinal game my senior year. My roomies and I were serious fans that year, even driving all the way down to Nebraska to watch one of the games. I loved them so much I didn't even mind the fact that some of the basketball players lived in the apartment above us and you could often hear a basketball bouncing at all hours of the night.
I really wish I could have been there to see tonight's game. In fact, I wish I could have been there with my little bro, who is now a Jackrabbit himself. We would have had so much fun! I'll be cheering for them come Sunday when they face Wyoming in the WNIT Quarterfinals. Woohooo! Go, Jacks, GO! I'm bleeding BLUE and YELLOW for you!
I hear ya Stace! Once a Jackrabbit, Always a Jackrabbit! Your blog brought many of my own memories of going to their games and roomy with a former Basketball player. My senior year they won Nationals, the last year we were still DII. It was an exciting year! Go Jacks Go! :)
