Getting Back Into It

After trying to jump back into running and paying for it with a body so sore I could barely walk, I am pleased to announce that I have now run two days in a row without being in crazy pain the next day! (Wow, that was a run on but I'm too tired to change it.)
Yesterday I ran on the treadmill at the gym, but today was so incredibly gorgeous out that I had to run in Mundy Park. It was pretty tough. As I was running I wondered how many times over my life I will stop running for one reason or another and have to go through the pain and torture of getting back into it. I wish it was something that you could just easily pick up again, but it takes time. My massage therapist was telling me last week that it takes less than two weeks for our muscles to go into atrophy once we stop working on them. No wonder my legs are so jiggly right now! I only wish it took two weeks to get back to where I was!
Sadly, it does not. It takes months of hard work. I'm willing to put in the effort. I miss my old body. It's strange...I wasn't even at the point where I was showing in my pregnancy when I lost the baby, but my body sure had changed! I guess that most of it was due to the fact that I had to stop seriously exercising so early on.
This weekend I went shopping for summer clothes. Orginally I hadn't done that, because I thought my body would be morphing into a shape I did not recognize. I'm finding now, though, that I'm right back where I was size-wise. That's a relief! Now I just have to get the muscle tone back and I will truly feel normal again. I admit, it was pretty fun to shop! I found a lot of great pieces for summer for great deals! I have worn different outfits to school the past two days and gotten the "Oh, what a cute summer outfit!" comments. It brings a smile to my face.
Back to the running. Today I made it for half an hour. Most of that time was spent actually running, with a brief one minute break of walking in between a couple of times. Not too bad. I made it all the way through what used to take me about 25 minutes in 30 minutes, so I'm considering that a success! I'm just going to keep plugging away at it. Meanwhile, I'm working on my tan in that hot sun! Don't worry, I wear sunscreen!
