You know it must be a different haircut when the guy on your staff that has short term memory loss recognizes that your hair has changed.
Man, what a difference a little bit of fringe makes! I haven't made that big of a change, but really, I guess it is a big change. I went to get my hair cut and colored...the coloring is the first time it has been done since December! Whoa! That's actually a long time for me, and it was getting back to my real actual color. Which wasn't too bad, really, but hey, there is just something about picking EXACTLY the color that you want that is kind of fun!
So, there I was. The color was coming along and I was thinking...what did I want to do? I knew I wanted something different, yet I didn't think I wanted to chop it all off. Every time I have done that I have regretted it and then it always takes me awhile to get it back to the length that I truly love. So, length was out. The color was changing already...going a bit darker. I have done the brunette thing and while it looked okay, I know myself-and my hubby! We both like at least a little blonde in the do! So, that left...bangs.
Now, I have not had bangs since I was ten or something like that. I can remember the thick fringe that my mom used to cut for me. It seemed like half of my hair was this fringe...somehow it looked cute though. I also remember when my sister so lovingly gave me some bangs. Yep, you know it...big sister convinces little sister that she needs a haircut and big sister is just the person to do it! Adrienne cut a nice chunk right out of the front, quite close to my head! My mom had to give me a sort of psuedo-mullet to try to fix it. Not the best look ever!
I think there may have been a brief stint in high school where I had bangs, but they were kind of stringy and I curled them over the big barrel of my curling iron. I'm pretty sure that I gave up on them pretty quickly.
What was I thinking!? Could I really handle the fringe? What about those cute sideswept bangs that everyone is wearing now? Yeah, I decided, that was more my speed. I can't change too much at once!
So, when we got back to the chair after washing my hair out I said, quite tentatively, "So, I was thinking about bangs, maybe, sort of, um...well, what do you think?" My hairdresser responded quite enthusiastically.
"I think you would look fantastic! What do you want?"
After some discussion we decided to go for the sideswept look. So, down sliced the scissors and suddenly there it was, hair, a lot of it, in my eyes. I cannot stand having hair in my eyes. I knew the sideswept thing wasn't going to work for this girl.
Me: "Um, this isn't going to work. It's going to drive me crazy!"
Hairdresser: "You want to just go for it?"
Me, with great trepidation: "Sure!"
Chop, chop, went the scissors. Suddenly, I was looking at a different person. And it was a little freaky.
I went home and opened the door with caution. I eased my head around the corner and Kevin said, "Whoa!" But trust me, it was the good kind of whoa, not the scary kind like whoa-what-have-you-done-I-hate-it-but-have-to-pretend-like-I-like-it-so-you-don't-cry!
I went through the night and by the end of it, I was in tears. Silly, I know, but I just didn't feel like myself! I had bangs AND my hair was too dark! I couldn't get it fixed because I was leaving the next day for a two day field trip to Washington.
My sweet, sweet hubby, who is getting better and better at this husband thing every day, offered to call and get me an appointment to fix it up. When I called him from Washington he had gotten me an appointment.
So, yesterday I went and got the color fixed and now? Now I love it! I feel so different. I have bangs! It's crazy. I think I actually kind of love them. The opinions differ but overall people seem to really like the look. My students love it...another woman on staff with me at school told me I look like a supermodel today! Ha! That's a laugh, but it was sweet of her.
Here they are...what a difference a little fringe makes!

Wow Stace - aren't these kind of changes such a thrill? You look fantastic, as always! Can't wait to see you in person Saturday!

I like the color! I like it a lot! It's a great balance between the blonde and brown an it's nice and bright. Those bangs are almost identical to the style I showed the lady at my salon (it was actually a picture of Reese Witherspoon's bangs) and she told me they wouldn't look good on me! Oh well...can't win em' all! They great on you though! :)
