Bummer Knee

I have a bum knee. I prefer to call it my bummer knee because it is hampering my plan to get my body whipped into shape by December 30th, which is a bummer. Seriously, big bummer.

Once I got my surprise, I became determined to get back to where I was before I got pregnant the first time. I wasn't that far from it, and figured it would be easy. I upped my running and next thing I knew, I was nursing a bum knee. It was fine for about the first 10-15 minutes of each run. Then the pain would begin. Shooting pains. Inside of my knee. After I finished, I could hardly walk and going up and down stairs was out of the question. I kept trying to push through it. I told Kevin that I thought it was just a weird pain and it would probably go away. At one point Kevin said, "But honey, I don't think you're supposed to feel ANY pain!"

If you know me, I'm not one that goes to doctors much. I like to prescribe that to other people, but often find myself not having the time. This was the case with my knee. Last Wednesday, however, I hit the wall. I was running in the park...having a great run and totally enjoying the gorgeous weather...until it started again. I got to the point where I was hobbling through the park. It was cold, and by the time I got home I was freezing! That was it...I called the chiropractor.

Good news! It's not such a bum knee after all! It turns out I have tendonitis in the tendons of my knee. I need new runners. I have orthotics, but they can only do so much. And sometimes, these things just happen! So tonight I was able to get ultrasound on my knee and he readjusted my kneecap. Not the most exciting and pain-free thing, but I know it's good in the long run. I have a week of treatment ahead of me and then hopefully back to running! I hope that it's only a week. I'm also happy that my bummer knee is not a seriously injured knee, because I was starting to wonder! Maybe I can still get to where I want to be by December 30th. Here's hoping!
