Splish Splash!

When I was young I used to go swimming every day all summer. My grandparents had a wonderful, in ground pool at their house, complete with diving board. I remember waiting all day for the afternoon to come, when we would pile into the car, drive up to Grandma's house, and enjoy an afternoon of fun in the sun. I think I was in that pool from the age of about 6 months on. Every summer I would end up with a deep tan and white, white blonde hair. I learned to swim from my Aunt Charita in the shallow end, and I remember spending hours perfecting my back dive off of the diving board.

When I was in high school, my grandparents sold their house, and with it, the pool. We couldn't fault them, because they were ready to move to Arizona and be snow birds, but it was a sad, sad day when the pool was filled in by the new owners and became a big garden. My passion for a nice dip in the refreshing water waned a bit.

After graduating university, I got my first real job, in California! My roommate and I were in a great apartment complex and we had a big pool right outside of our apartment. My passion for swimming was renewed. Many days I would come home from a long day of work, throw on my suit, and swim laps in that pool. I really enjoyed it! Sadly, that passion also waned once winter hit and I realized that it wasn't quite as warm as I thought it was!

I think my love for swimming has been renewed yet again. I went for a dip in our hotel pool in Oregon, and loved it. Today I didn't have much to do, and rather than face a day alone at home, Kevin suggested I make my way down to the city aquatic centre. It's actually REALLY nice! They have an amazing kids play area with a pirate ship, wave pool, and rain shower thingy. The Olympic sized pool is cut into lanes for fast, medium, and leisure swimmers. I swam for almost an hour today in the leisure section-I wouldn't call myself a fast swimmer! It was actually really wonderful! I feel wiped out now, but I think it's more due to lack of regular exercise than anything else. I think I'll try to get to the pool again sometime soon!
