Doctor's Update

I just got back from my doctor's appointment. Things are good. Little Sowerby is swimming away in there, well, sort of. A few interesting things:

1. My belly is FIRM. So firm. My belly button still hasn't popped, I don't have any stretch marks-bless you Lord and Mother! I must have gotten good genes. My stomach is still sometimes referred to as "tiny" or "small" when people discover that I am delivering in August, yet it is FIRM...oh yes it is. She had a hard time feeling the indivdual parts of the baby's body today because it is so firm. She actually did it twice to make sure that the baby was head down, as she thought originally. She thinks that baby is packed in there pretty tightly. Why does this happen, I'm not sure! I'm thankful for it in a way. There is no threat to the baby, and I guess it means those muscles and such were tighter than I thought when this whole process began. It also means that I don't feel huge yet...although I'm sure that will come. I still have seven weeks to go, after all.

2. She was commenting on how good I still look, especially with reference to my legs. It's funny, you never think your doctor is going to compliment you on your legs but as she said "Wow! You're still looking great! No swelling! I can even see every ligament and tendon and everything!" I was so proud. Actually, I don't think I really have much to do with it, but I DO try to drink lots of water and eat relatively well. I think that this great comment calls for a celebration with some ice cream tonight though. Yummm...I'm so happy that you can still see the ligaments in my legs and I have a "reason" to get ice cream! :)

3. There were tons of babies in the office today. It is a maternity clinic, but the other side is the public health center and they share a waiting room. Babies, babies, babies...all over the place! It made me become really excited for that day when I meet this baby. Yeah! I can't wait! Okay, I guess I can, but some days it is hard! I also thought, however, of how thankful that my doctor was not yet working in this office when I lost the first two babies. I imagine it might have been a bit hard to sit there thinking about how I had lost my baby, surrounded by all of these other babies. Not that I want their mothers to go through the same thing, because it really sucks, but it would have been tough.

4. In two weeks I'm back in there again. I will be 35 weeks then! It's the appointment where we discuss labour and what will happen and everything. Hmm...that makes it all a bit more real! The time certainly has flown by...in some ways. In other ways it's gone slow but really, I can't complain too much!

  1. Heh. You described my life to a T. In our hospital, every ob-gyn patient goes to the same waiting room for everything, so both times I sat there with a dead baby in me, I sat surrounded by pregnant ladies, strollers, etc. It's even the same waiting room for the *fertility clinic*, which I think is especially harsh. Did I ever tell you that the time I had to have a D&C, my *doctor* was even pregnant? That's just too much to bear! But it made us throw up our hands and laugh, because what else can you do at that point?

I am glad you're one of the happy ones in the clinic this time!!

  2. I wandered by the baby aisle (s) at Target tonight and my firs thought was to look for some cute baby gifts for you (well really for Baby s)...I discovered it's hard without knowing the sex! I think it's neat to keep it a secret so I guess I'll have to wait for he or she to make an appearance before I shop. :) I did your "circles" pattern and it's very cute--and very unisex! Lol.
