Well, I was really hoping not to post until the baby was born, but because it will save me phonecalls and probably many messages, I decided to post today.
We went to the doctor this morning and discovered that I am not dialated...at all. Zero, nothing, nada. The baby's head is still high...not engaged at all. This baby is comfy. It does NOT want to leave the warm home that it is currently inhabiting. I'm okay with this, really, I am. However, the whole unknown thing was getting to me. I can't say I was surprised when she gave us this news today, but in a way, it was a relief to know.
We had a chat with our doctor, and we have a plan of action. I was not wanting to be induced, but I think it is much easier to say that when you are still ahead of your due date than when you have gone way past it. We are not yet way past it, but when we plan to induce, we will be a week past, which is awhile. There is something to be said for letting the baby come in its own timing, but then there is also something to say for the mental state of being for the mother. I have heard stories of stillbirths and other things that have me a wee bit freaked out. We chatted about all of that with our doctor this morning and I am now feeling better, but still, we needed a plan of action.
It looks like I will be induced on Sunday. That will be a week overdue. This gives us several more days for things to start happening naturally, which is what I am still praying for, but it also gives us a plan of sorts. Like I have said all along, I definitely trust my doctor completely and what she thinks is best, and she thinks that this is the best plan. We do not have a normal relationship with our doctor. She has been deeply involved in every aspect of our journey, from giving me many hugs while I cried as I found out about the miscarriages, to getting us into the fertility program ahead of schedule, to, most recently, giving us her beautiful Storkcraft changing table. She's a maternity doctor, she could have given it to any number of patients, but for some reason she chose us. She has a warm heart, and we never enter or leave her office without huge hugs for both us. This is the woman that has given me her home telephone number as I went through the miscarriages, the DNC, and all of the stuff that came afterward, just in case I needed to get ahold of her at 2 in the morning. She can't wait to meet this baby. She was on call this weekend and said that all weekend she kept waiting for OUR phone call to be the one! If she says this is best for us, I know that she means it.
Originally I was having a hard time with the fact that my mom arrives tomorrow. I think we all thought that the baby would be here by then, and she would spend lots of time helping me out. Now it looks like she may be helping me organize closets and go on walks instead, but that's fine. She has assured me that she knows God has her coming at the right time, and now it looks like she will be here for the birth as well, which is special in its own right. She has assured me that this is a great thing, and after a long talk with my dad yesterday and my mom today, I actually believe that.
I was also worried about the fact that Kevin has to go back to work on Tuesday, but we discovered he gets two paternity days, and his new principal is great. He talked with his principal yesterday about the fact that I could go a lot later, and he was basically told that he should plan on taking that week off. What a nice guy! It's nice to know that Kevin can be here with me that first week...I wouldn't want him to miss it.
My two main concerns, my mom and my hubby, are taken care of. I can't tell you what a relief that is! Now I can just relax and let things happen. We will see...God is a God of miracles! I could go into labour tonight and have this baby tomorrow, or we could be waiting until Sunday. Either way, I feel like I'm in a much better frame of mind than I was, and I am excited to see my Mom tomorrow! I haven't seen her since last August! She also happens to be a great photographer, so I'm hoping to get her to take some pictures of Kevin and I at this stage. We didn't really want to spend the money to do it before, but she will do a great job, so why not? We will have time on our hands.
One thing that I do ask, respectfully, is to NOT receive a bunch of advice on how to make this baby come. Trust me, I have heard it all. I know all about Castor Oil, long walks, sex, and everything that you are supposed to do to "naturally induce" yourself. I'm a smart girl, I can look stuff up as well as anyone else. I also have good friends whose advice I have ASKED for, and I appreciate it. I know all of the stories about going for bumpy car rides, or how so and so went for a massage and had her baby the next day or how this girl took castor oil and went into labour three hours later or this other girl that went dancing and bam! She had the baby! I am content to do what I feel comfortable, and otherwise, to just wait.
I'm just going to ask that you pray for God's timing in this, and if it happens to be through induction on Sunday, we're okay with that. If not, and the baby comes earlier, great! In the meantime, if you want to call and chat about something OTHER than the baby or how I'm feeling, that would be great!! I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just trying to survive the wait...so, thanks!
Mentally, I'm doing better than I was a few days ago. I think that dealing with the anxiety of my mom coming and not getting to spend time with the baby was a huge help, as well as now knowing that I won't be pregnant forever! I know that many women have gone on a lot longer than this, and were just fine...I'm just really excited to meet this little one. This baby has been much prayed for, much thought of, and we can't wait to see its tiny toes, its little nose, and every precious feature of it! The good news is that by this time next week, we WILL have a baby! Hurray!

Hey Stacy,
ReplyDeleteHang in there, I'm not sure how far along you are but you will have the baby :)I was 8 days overdue w/ Eli. I hope everything goess well. It was such an exciting time in our lives, as I'm sure it will be in your too. It's especially awesome to see your husband become a father. I'll say a prayer for you tonight. Take care mommy!
