Life of a Stay at Home Mom

Okay, I'll admit it. I didn't know how I would handle this whole stay at home mom thing. I had ideas that I would maybe be bored, that I wouldn't feel completely fulfilled, that I would want to be at work just for a break. I know I'm still very new at it, but I love it!

I get to spend the day with my little man. I know his every facial expression. I know that when he wrinkles up his forehead and stretches his head back it means that he is satisfied and content. I know that this cry just means he wants to be held, but the other cry means "I'm HUNGRY MOM! Feed me NOW please!" I know that he loves to be held with his chest to mine, snuggled right up under my chin, and putting him in that particular position will calm him down just about every single time. I know that he feels more snuggly wrapped up in his Oregon blanket, rather than the receiving blankets we bought him a week before he was born. Something about the stretchy fabric. I know that he likes to be swaddled, but HATES having his legs wrapped up tight.

I love being home with my boy. I'm also finally feeling really well, and up to getting out and about with him. Unfortunately, he just had some "elective" surgery, so he isn't really feeling that up to it, but next week? We're going to be hitting the town in his stroller!

One of my favorite things so far has been being so close as a family. Kevin's new job is really flexible in many ways, and he doesn't have to leave until 8:30 or later in the morning. This allows us family time in the mornings! He is often home by 4, which gives him a lot of good time with Rusty before dinner. It's bliss! I love these little family times. Kev's job also isn't one where he has to talk a lot because of the nature of the classes, so he has lots of words left to share with me when he gets home. This is especially fabulous, as you know, women have lots of words to share during a day!

Even moments like now are precious. You might think I am ignoring my baby by spending time on the computer...nope! He is snuggled up on my lap...I have the Boppy pillow to support the lap top and we are just all snuggled up. I love it. These snuggly moments are the best!

Yep, I think I'm liking this stay at home mom thing. I miss seeing my students, but I don't miss the work. I miss seeing my friends regularly, but I don't miss having marking hanging over my head. I feel less stress, more joy. I wonder if I will ever want to go back???? For now I'm just going to be thankful that I have this year off. What a blessing!

My little man...2 weeks old. He's growing so fast!
