Mother's Day

Mother's Day...it's a day that can bring many mixed emotions. I waited and longed for the day when I would celebrate this special day while holding a sweet child in my arms. That day came yesterday and I did not take it for granted.

I woke up-earlier than I wanted but hey, the boy is sick so I couldn't begrudge him-and enjoyed a morning snuggle from Rusty. Oh I breathed in his sweet smell and rubbed my cheek against his and showered him with kisses. I can tell you that not a day goes by that I don't thank the Lord for this precious boy in my life and remember the true miracle it is that he is here. I don't take motherhood or having a baby for granted, and yesterday my heart was full of all of the women I know that long to have babies of their own. My prayer was that their Mother's Day next year would give them the same experience I had this year, one of holding their baby tightly in their arms and drinking in the intoxicating smell that only a baby holds.

I had a good day...I enjoyed walking in the sunshine with my two favorite boys and had a Starbucks and a nice long nap in the morning. The night, however, was a different story. Poor Rusty, he's sick. He has a pretty bad cough and last night it all came to a head. He couldn't seem to sleep because every time we put him down in his crib about ten minutes later he would start coughing and wake up again. Finally I went and just held him upright in my arms for most of the night. I'm tired today for sure, but I have to say, as I held him in my arms last night words of thankfulness poured out of my heart.

I was thankful that I had a sweet boy to hold, I was thankful that we had a warm house to be in at night, I was thankful that he gave me sweet smiles all day even though he was sick, I was thankful that I have an incredible, supportive husband that stands by me-even at 1:30 in the morning when I know he just wants to roll over and go back to sleep. I was thankful that Rusty is healthy and happy-a cough is tough, but it is not life threatening and I know other babies that have been in those life threatening situations recently. I am thankful that I get to be home with him and see him grow and change. I'm thankful that we have food to feed to him and that he can learn about Jesus from us.

I'm so thankful to be Rusty's mom. I don't take a day of it for granted, I love him so much and I look forward to the years ahead. I pray daily that he will be a strong, loving, selfless young man. I pray that he will love Jesus and love others. I pray that he will continue to bring joy into the lives of others. I love you Rusty! Thanks for letting me be your mom!
