Vacation #1

We just returned from vacation. It was a lovely vacation. We stayed in an awesome log cabin at a ski resort-that just happened to be DEAD for the summer, seriously, we only saw other humans when the construction crews came in to work on the cabin two doors down for the day. Crazy, but soooo peaceful. Look at the view, isn't it gorgeous!?
The vacation was awesome. We went with some of our best friends, and enjoyed days lazing on the beach by Lake Okanagan, going to the spa for pedicures-the girls, not the guys, and a round of golf at the brand new Tower Ranch-the guys, not the girls! We ate well-steaks, bbq chicken, potato salad, pasta salad, pancakes, french toast...the list just goes on and on! We played fun games, we talked, we lazed around and Rusty was awesome. He slept pretty well, considering he was in his playpen in the master bathroom. He only woke up about once each night, disregarding the first night during which he woke up just about every hour. He was a joy, he LOVED being outside at the beach, and he cried when we tried to take him out of the lake! The kid is a big fan of the water! He splashed away and sat down in the sand at the lake's edge splashing away, even when he was shivering from the cold. We have decided we will have to spend more time than we planned at lakes and water parks this summer. He crawled all over in the grass and was completely content to play in his playpen under the tree while we laid on the blanket, talked, and read. It was bliss.
Highlights and Lowlights (Taken from my friend Sunny's blog, I liked the idea)

Highlights

  • Seeing Rusty have so much fun in the water. He is definitely a water baby!

  • All of the amazing food! My friend Seren is a great cook, and she was so great. She wanted me to have a chance to relax, so she did most of the cooking, and the boys did the bbqing. I was hardly in the kitchen the whole time.

  • The gorgeous cabin we stayed in. It was amazing and beautiful! It had a lot of room and all the ammenities you could want.

  • Going to the beach. There is nothing better than lying on a blanket in the sun on a hot summer day with the sound of people laughing and playing around you.

  • How well Rusty slept Wednesday through Saturday nights. This was something I was VERY nervous about, as he hadn't been that great at sleeping in a play pen. He did awesome though, and I was proud of him.

  • Getting a lot of time to talk with Seren. We have both been really busy and it was nice to have so much uninterrupted time to just chat.

  • My pedicure! My toes were nasty, and now they look beautiful. I really like the color I picked. Bright Lights by OPI. Try it, it's a gorgeous summer color.

  • Lots of time in the car with my hubby. This is often when we have our best chats. I love that after five years of marriage we still have so much to talk about, even at that time when the topic of conversation for most people tends to be the baby. Don't get me wrong, we talk about Rusty a lot, but we also talk about other things too!

Lowlights

  • The first night...Rusty hardly slept. I felt bad for him, bad for me, and bad for Kevin!

  • The driving...the cabin was a bit far from town, so we had about an hour drive into town each day, but it was worth it for staying at such a gorgeous place and for free! Thanks to our friends!

  • Missing out on my anniversary dinner. An accidental schedule conflict prevented it, but we plan to go out some time soon!
  • Getting stuck in traffic on highway 1 on the way home. Man, summer Sunday nights are known for this. Luckily we were able to call my friend and find alternate routes, but the four hour trip turned into six thanks to traffic. By the time we got home we were delirious with laughter and poor Rusty was delirious with tears!
Just a few more weeks until we take off on our next vacation, a trip home to see my family!

  1. You guys are in full travel mode this summer!

I love how Jai and I talk about all kinds of stuff too, not just the baby. Sometimes I want to find all those people who said we'd NEVER talk about anything else once became parents, fine them and show that what-for! Not that that would accomplish anything.
