I took time this afternoon while Rusty was napping to braid my hair up, and I even put on a dress! At 4:30, we were ready and loaded into the car. We were hoping to be at L's house by 5, and half an hour has always been more than enough time for me to get there before, even with the fact that I have to go over the bridge. Thirty minutes later where were we? We were not even what is normally a ten minute drive from our house. Traffic was crazy! We wondered if we should cancel, but decided to try a different route. We took the "wrap around," usually a sure fire trick for beating traffic but to no avail. It was backed up past the turn off for the wrap around! By this time it was now 5:15 and we were still stuck in our own town! We knew that we wouldn't be making it to L's house any time before 7 p.m. Rusty was already screaming in the car, he was tired of being in the car seat and it was also getting close to his dinner time. He was running on less sleep than usual as well since we had been up at the cottage the day before and arrived home late. We knew we had to make a choice, and sadly, we had to cancel our plans.
The food finally came, and after wolfing it down, we decided to head to our favorite park. We figured Rusty would be up for a swing, but once we got there he just cried when we put him in the swing! This has never happened! At this point we could only laugh at the situation! We had to! What else can you do? We did manage to salvage the night a bit, and just enjoyed the sea air and green grass. It's such a beautiful place that we were happy no matter what!
Rusty and I even took the opportunity to chase down some geese! HIssss!
We had that screaming baby experience once at the Olive Garden. I ended up waiting for my food in the bathroom with Nate. Came out to wolf some of it down (with him screaming of course) and then waited in the bathroom again for Colin to finish. The Colin took him to the car and I finished the rest.
ReplyDeleteOnly has happened once though. Another time he sang twinkle twinkle little star at the TOP of his lungs and got some cheers.
Everyone has those restaurant experiences. I remember feeling really embarrassed when it was just Reesa, but since having two, I sort of think, "hey people, we're trying to deal with getting two kids and ourselves fed here, and the kids are tired and starving, and so are we. I think you can handle a little noise." :) That, or we just ask to be seated in the furthest corner of the restaurant. Aaaah, kids!
