It's been a weird week. I was at Save On Foods the other day walking through the parking lot in the rain. I had on my very cheap Walmart Ugg copycat boots, jeans, and a hoody...not my best look. Imagine my surprise when a man-who must have been in his mid 30s, by the way-rolled down his window and yelled "Hey there cutie!" Seriously...cutie? I wonder what he thought about the crusty look I threw his way. It must not have quite registered because later when I drove by he waved and wiggled his eyebrows. I just lifted my hand and flashed my ring...I mean, come on! You are in your mid-thirties and you are hitting on a scruffed out mom in the parking lot of a grocery store? Grow up!
Today I was substitute teaching at a high school in the district in which I am hired. I went to the canteen at lunch to grab a plastic fork. I asked the teacher in charge and he said, "To the end of the line! You know the rules!" I was like, "Uh, I'm a teacher." Oops! He said, "YOU'RE a teacher?" and handed me the fork with a smile. This used to happen to me all the time my first year of teaching. I was at a big school with about 60 staff. Sometimes people didn't know I was a teacher, they thought I was a student, even though I dressed professionally. I was, however, about eight years younger at that time! I think in the last year I have aged, I've got the laugh lines around my mouth, bags under my eyes, but I have earned them! I have to admit, I didn't feel so bad when I was mistaken as a student today! Maybe I don't look quite as old as I think!
Weird week!

Hmmm...the last time someone "cat called" at me (for lack of a better word) was three years ago when I worked at the casino. Not that I need it, but I wonder if it'll ever happen again?? hehe
ReplyDeleteThe last time I was mistaken for being younger....was only every day that I venture outside my home! :)
You have been experiencing some weirdness!!
ps. I would guess you to be about 25 years old before you talked about your actual age in a previous post!
ReplyDeleteThat's funny. People tell me I look younger than my age too...they always seem shocked when they found out that I'm 30 *gasp*. :) Well...that, and then when (and only when I have to) I tell them I'm divorced...I sometimes feel like I should just make a sign for my back that says, "Yes, I'm 30 and divorced." Oh my...okay that was a little rambling...
