Right now, things are good in the household-and out of it for that matter. We have been enjoying so many wonderful things lately.
Yesterday I talked to my mom for forever. It started out as a simple phone call to wish her a happy birthday and turned into a deep, heartfelt conversation, the likes of which we haven't enjoyed for quite some time. Life has been busy for her, and our conversations have been brief snippets here and there when we mention to catch one another. Talking to my mom was good...it was real.
Friends have been filling up our joy cups lately. We spent a beautiful night with some dear friends and their week old baby boy last night. I was so excited to be able to give back a little bit of what had been given to me in those first weeks. I'll never forget the random people stopping by to do a load of laundry, cook some dinner, or just hold Rusty. Of course the sweet baby boy I got to hold was the best part of all. That scent...made my heart ache and sing all at the same time. I'm so thankful my friend was willing to share her bundle of love with me for an hour or two.
Tonight was more friend goodness and I'm so sad I didn't take my camera. Imagine Rusty jumping with glee on a little friend's bed. Two little monkeys jumping on the bed was the perfect description for those two yahoos. The sweet little boy giggles we kept hearing from his buddy's bedroom were hilarious, and my friend and I couldn't help but smile. She also has a month old baby boy and I got to have more newborn snuggles. AHhhhhhh.
The weather-with the exception of today-has hints of summer in the air. I forgot how wonderful it is to actually feel the sun warming your skin. You know, that toasty feeling when you put your hand on your arm and you can just feel the heat radiating off of it? I love that feeling. Better yet, that toasty feeling in your sun warmed car as you climb in after a long day in an icy building? Bliss. It's been fun to get Rusty out to the park and Kevin is so on board with every trip out that I find myself anxiously anticipating this summer and trips up to the lake or out to the cabin, or down to the beach...yeah, I have a few things planned.
I'm making some headway in our house. I actually got the last two boxes out of the kitchen. That's monumental for me, people. I also finally hung the curtains in Rusty's bedroom and last weekend Kevin and I went downstairs during a naptime and figured out exactly what we want to do with the basement. My hope is to have it up and running soon, soon enough that my cousin can stay in our guest room when she comes up to visit in June. I'm excited to think of things coming together. Since I have been working so much lately, we have also built up our "indulgences fund" a bit and I will be able to go out and purchase a few more decor things-area rug for the living room, curtains for the living room, a few more pictures frames. I've been trying not to just spend the money without thinking, and it has been a good practice in patience. In fact, I changed my mind on what I wanted to do for curtains in the living room several times, so waiting was a good plan. Now I know the exact curtains, the exact area rug, and exactly how much they cost. Maybe we will also hang up that painting that has been leaning against the wall in my bedroom since we moved.
All these good things are happening lately. I'm so thankful for the life I'm living. How could I not be when I get to look at this every day?
