Today I was checking out one of my favorite blogs, Enjoying the Small Things, and she was talking about how summer is almost here and how much she can't wait to enjoy it. I, too, am anticipating summer. This summer I have much to look forward to. The little munchkin is old enough to handle adventures and to enjoy various jaunts to places we love, like our cottage, the local park and beach, and even perhaps places we have never been before!
Summer for us means no work...well, almost. It looks like Kev may be doing summer school, but for me it means no work, no possibility of the early morning phone call bringing me in for a job for the day. It means making plans with friends. Summer means gorgeous sunny day after gorgeous sunny day. It means day trips to parks and beaches. It means weekend trips up to our summer cottage!
Our cottage is one of our ultimate destinations for the summer. It is hours of splashing in the water, boat rides to the mainland for gelato, and blackberry picking-and sampling-to make a fresh blackberry pie. It is crab races and late afternoon swims before dinner on the sun deck.
It is Rusty learning how to swim in the little natural pool near the wharf.
Our little island is surrounded by BC gorgeousness, and every time I step onto it I feel a sense of "AAAhhhh." I can't get over how it still soothes my soul to be there.
For me, summer means more time with my boys and with my family. We will definitely be planning a trip home at some point, and I can't wait to spend more time with my sister, mom, cousins and watch Rusty playing with his cousins. They obviously bring him great joy.
In honor of Kelle at Enjoying the Small Things and her summer list, here is a summer list of my own! I will...
Eat lots of those fruity freezy pops
Get a start summer right pedicure
Have a beach picnic with Rusty and some friends
Take a walk out to my favorite place on my island, Salmon Rock
Watch an island sunset with my hubby on Sandy Beach (hopefully while Nana and Papa watch the munchkin!)
Walk the seawall with my Nancy
Go strawberry picking at the farms nearby with Rusty
Kayak at Rocky Point at least once (Jess, can you help me out with this one??)
Finish putting up the pictures in the upstairs of our home
Take some sort of a getaway, just hubby and me
Make some good old USA unsweetend sun tea on the deck
Visit at least one part of this gorgeous area that I have never been to...ambleside???
Make my very own fresh blackberry pie
Come on summer, bring it on!

I predict you won't be able to get Rusty out of the water this year!
ReplyDeleteI got my "summer start right" pedicure yesterday and it was LONG overdue. I was almost embarrassed to take my flip flops off, lol...but it's so nice!
ReplyDeleteOne more thing...I have forever abandoned "unsweetened tea" for the sweetened variety. I can get enough sweet tea. Love it. ;)
ReplyDeleteI miss you guys!
ReplyDeleteI hope that your summer includes lots of time with J and I!!! I might be able to help you cross some of those things off your list. :)
Can't wait till summer!
That sounds heavenly! Take me with you!!!
