Yesterday was the culmination of two great things...summer arrived and we finally felt more at home in our house!
The day broke and it was bright and gloriously sunny. Oh how I have been waiting for this weather. I'm not one that normally complains about weather, but these last few weeks have been pretty tough. I expect the gray and rain in the winter, in the summer, not so much. When I woke up to see the sun beating down I couldn't wait to get outside with the munchkin and Kev.
We took the opportunity to head to one of our favorite places. We left it up to Rusty, asking him if he would rather go to the park or to the beach to hunt for crabs. He enthusiastically shouted, "BEACH!" so we were off. He loves to lift the rocks with his daddy and look for the little crabs that hide underneath. Whenever they find them they release them into the little pools of water dotting the beach. The last time we went a little crab pinched his hand, so Rusty was a bit hesitant about holding them this time, but I'm sure that after a few trips to Keats this summer he will be carrying them around again.
Rusty LOVES the beach. He loves to splash around in the water, look at the starfish, and just enjoy everything that there is to explore there. He gets so excited, and hugs us endlessly! We thought this time we were clever by putting him in his boots. The last time we went he came home with muddy shoes.
Well, Rusty trumped us. In the middle of his jumping his foot got stuck in the mud and down he went, covered in sand, water, and mud! He didn't cry, just got up and said, "OH NO!" I had him wipe down his hands on his shirt, and our little rendevous was cut short. We went back up to the grass, took off his boots, and made our way back to the car.
It was such a fun time! We followed it with a long afternoon nap, and Kev put himself to work outside in the yard. Once Rusty was awake, I took him out and he loved spending time with the neighbor boys playing hockey and also playing with his water table in the backyard. We got the table for $5 at a yard sale last year and hadn't really had a chance to use it yet. I think he's going to have a lot of fun with it!
The yard looks great, we got to know our neighbors on both sides better, and best of all, we upped our Vitamin D quotient! Ah, summer is finally here!

What a yard sale bargain!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! One of our favourite places to visit as well. We'll have to join you one day! I love the photo of Rusty jumping!
ReplyDeleteHe will really love that water table! You are brave to want to put sand in it. I know J would just mix the two. But I guess that's all part of the fun:)
