A Trip to the Toy Store

I remember when Rusty was just a wee one.  Trips to Toys R Us were simple, easy.  He was completely oblivious to the mounds of toys surrounding him.  He had no clue what most of them were.  We could quickly run in, get whatever gift we needed for whatever birthday party we were going to and head right back out. 

Today was a different story!  We drove up to the store, and I'm not sure how he knew because we rarely go there, but he looked at it and said, "TOOOYYYYSSS!"  His little eagle eyes first off spotted the outside toys in the fence in the parking lot, so of course we had to go and check all of those out.  Slides, little houses, playgrounds...he was in heaven!  There was one particular house that he was basically in love with.  It was a Dora playhouse.  When he saw Dora and Boots on the outside he was thrilled and ran to it, going in and out over and over again.  After a few minutes, I took him inside to do our shopping.  He was pretty content to be in that cart looking at all of those toooyyyyss!

We first hit the outside sand toys, because we needed those for one birthday.  As I was driving the cart past them, he noticed a case of 16 rubber duckies...I did not.  A few aisles later as I put in the gift we were looking for, I noticed two cases of rubber duckies in the cart.  I looked at him and said, "What are these duckies doing in the cart silly boy?"  He giggled of course as I put them away. 

Later on, we were in the kitchen and food section.  He saw the kitchens and became so very excited!  The poor guy, he really wants a play kitchen, we simply don't have the room for it right now.  It's something I want to wait on until our downstairs family room is complete and he has his little play corner. 

Next it was the sports section.  The wall was full of golfing equipment, balls of all shapes and sizes, and hockey sticks and pucks.  OF COURSE he saw the hockey net and just about freaked!  "Mama!  STICK!"  He was ready to play then and there!

On to the books, this is where I caved.  The Leap Frog Fridge Phonics set was SIXTY PERCENT OFF!  I have been waiting and waiting to get Rusty one of these.  Maybe you have seen them, they have the magnet and when the child pushes the letter into it it says the letter, the sound the letter makes, and then sings a song.  Rusty loves these at other peoples' homes and I have just been waiting for the right deal.  I thought 60 % off was definitely that deal!  So now Rusty has the Fridge Phonics and I think he's going to love it.  So far he only knows a few letters in the alphabet, but he loves learning them, and I really think this will help him!  The one other thing I caved for was a pad of paper for him to draw pictures in. He loves coloring right now, he saw the aisle of crayons and said "Mama, CRAYONS!"  Maybe you will get a picture in the mail one of these days!

The trip through the store was definitely different this time.  He knew what everything was, and he was very excited to see all of it!  I was impressed though, at how well he behaved and I was thankful that he didn't whine when I made him put back the Dora book he was looking at!  Our boy is definitely growing up!
