What a good boy

Tonight we had a few errands to run.  We popped Rusty into the car and were on our way.  Last night was the same.  He got to bed a little late last night, and has been waking up in the night for some reason the past few nights.  All of this combined meant that he was a very tired boy.  That meant that our normally well-behaved and good listening munchkin was a wild man.

Kev had to go to the Army and Navy store to pick up a few things for his guys' weekend this weekend, and Rusty, who normally sticks beside us and listens when we tell him where he needs to be, was that crazy kid that you see taking off running through the store.  Yikes.  I finally had to take him out to the car while Kev finished up.  We were running late on our way home and wanted to just stop somewhere quick for dinner.  We decided on IKEA-yay for cheap dinner!  Meatballs and mashed potatoes...all of that yummy goodness!  We got Rusty mac and cheese and at first he was doing great, eating away, and then he had a meltdown!  We weren't sure what to do because we needed to finish our food so we went to the kids play area in the food area.  He happily started playing, and we tried to scarf our food down as fast as possible.  He then decided it was time to run from the play area.  I said, "Rusty, no.  You stay here, or you go to the car."  Well, he decided he was going to run off again, so there it was.  Thankfully, Kev was done and could take him off to the car right away.

We got home and he was so very tired that we barely got him bathed and then he was off to bed an hour early.  He kept lying his head on our shoulders...he was just so tired.  Poor munchkin.

The bad behavior was a little tough for us to handle!  We have been very consistent with him from the start, and normally it really pays off in his good listening and obeying.  Tonight he was having none of it.  The one thing that it did show me is what a wonderful little boy he normally is.  He is smiley, happy and totally full of absolute joy.  He is such a blessing to us, and is so often pleasant, not only to us, but to everyone that we are around.  I'm so thankful to have such a joyous little munchkin in my life.  I am so thankful for how he is learning to listen to us and to respond to us, and that we can even see in times like this that it's not him, rather it is his tired little body, speaking out against us.

I love my good little boy.  He's such a nut.  This picture pretty much sums it up!

  2. Oh dear. Well, welcome to the beginning of the toddler years! :) It gives us all a good deal of humility to see our own "angels" putting on the wild child act. I feel like an old pro by now!! :D
