Fashionista in the Making

The other night my friend, Angela, called me up to ask what I was doing tonight. She said she had tickets to a fashion show in Vancouver and asked if I wanted to go. I'd never really been to anything like that before, so I said I was game. It actually surprised me and ended up being a lot of fun!

We left around 6:15 and first grabbed some delicious food at this great little sidewalk cafe we just happened upon. It's name was Spizzio's or Spizo's or something like that. It's near Gastown in Vancouver. I had a great piece of vegetarian pizza and a mixed salad and Angela enjoyed Spanakopita with a Caesar salad. My entire meal was just $10! It's a pretty good bargain for what I got! The owner is this cute little old man from Greece. He and his wife came to Canada and became permanent residents in '94 and then opened up this little cafe. They were so cute in their service and they even brought us a complimentary dessert!

After our surprisingly delicious dinner, we were off to the show. It was called "What's Your Sign?" and was put on by the graduates of the John Casablancas Institute in Vancouver. It was really well done! The apparel merchandising majors had set it up and sought out designers from the area. I'm not into the whole astrology thing, but they basically had a designer for each of the signs of the Zodiac. It really had nothing to do with astrology, it was just a way to organize the show. The designers were pretty good and my jaw dropped when I suddenly saw one of my STUDENTS walking the runway! I knew that she was picking up some modeling jobs but she was doing a fantastic job! She was really incredible! She spotted me and waited by the elevators after the show to talk to me...I think she was as shocked to see me as I was to see her. She said, "What are you DOING here?" I know, I know...our students think we have no lives!

The clothes were really cute and the atmosphere was just a lot of fun. It was just like you see on tv...they had a runway set up down the center of the room and chairs on either side. They had the music blaring and the lights flashing. It was different, it was fun, I learned a little bit about the expected summer fashions and I enjoyed a great time with Angela!
