Randomness

Today I was driving to work and I saw a pickup truck with two porta potties strapped on to the back. I guess that they never have to worry about stopping for a bathroom break!

Fall is now officially here. During my prep period today I walked out to the mailbox to send my grandma and grandpa a letter. I could just smell the scent of fall. You know what it is like...crushed leaves, dry grass, and sunshine. I love that smell. The golden leaves were crunching under my feet as the sun beat down on my back and I just thought "lovely!" I really enjoy fall when it comes gradually like this, instead of our normal onslaught of pounding rain and gray skies.

Tomorrow is my little sister's birthday. She's going to be turning 23 and I didn't get her birthday present sent off in time, again. *Sigh* I always promise myself that I will send my family their cards and gifts weeks ahead of time to ensure an ontime arrival but I just can't seem to get it done. I guess that's all right. It's the thought that counts, right? I mean, who wouldn't want their birthday to last a few weeks extra? It will be like a nice little surprise when she gets it in the mail. Happy Birthday my Candy Pandy!

Today I had to reprimand a student and send him into the hall for throwing an eraser all of the way across my classroom. Huh? I know, that's what I thought. I was standing right beside him and he just whipped it across the room. He's normally a pretty good kid, with a good head on his shoulders. I think he just temporarily checked out for a moment. This is their last day of school this week because we teachers have a conference and I guess the sheer excitement got to him. Then, I started to think. I thought about my old school and how throwing an eraser would have been a minor offense. It reminded me of the time that two boys broke into a huge fistfight in my classroom and I tried to break it up by going in between them. BIG mistake...I eventually had to call security. After thinking about all of that, I took a moment to thank God that I am now in a school where throwing an eraser is a big deal. The kid and I talked about it and he promised it won't happen again. Then he spent the rest of the class raising his hand to answer every question in order to get back into my good graces. Funny!

Monday is Canadian Thanksgiving. I'm sorry to all of the Canadians that read this, but I have to say it. Canadian Thanksgiving will NEVER measure up to American Thanksgiving. It just isn't the same. I know that most of you feel the same way, because you have admitted it to me. Look forward to a future post where I blog about the American Thanksgiving dinner that I put on every year. Last year we missed it due to Parent Teacher Interviews, but this year it is happening! I just don't know how I will fit all of those people into my tiny basement suite. I WILL make it happen!

I'm going out for coffee with a new friend that I made today. I met her at one of Kevin's hockey games. I just started talking to her, which is so unusual for me! I'm normally so reserved and now I'm a little scared but I'm also looking forward to it. Imagine...a friend that I made all by myself! She seems pretty cool...I'm hoping it goes well.

Well, I guess it's time to go! My students are here and my prep is over. Don't worry, I actually used it to work, I only spent the last ten minutes writing this mess of random words.
