Invisible Children

Two posts in one day, but this is an important one.

Our school has started a new fundraiser. They are calling it Uganda Project. The student council heard about these kids in Northern Uganda that are being kidnapped and brainwashed into being child soldiers. I can't even describe the horrors that they must endure. The council was able to make contact with a missionary couple working to help these children in Uganda. They learned that just $13,000 will be enough money to build a school, which could potentially save up to 40 children from the dangers of becoming child soldiers.

On Tuesday we watched a video in chapel. It was on these "invisible children." I'm not sure if it is because I'm expecting a baby myself, or if this is just one of those things that got me, but the video tore my heart up. I wanted to hop on a plane and just grab as many of those kids as I possibly could and bring them back to live with me. I would like you all to watch the video. You can find it here. It is a bit longer, but watch it. You won't be able to ignore these kids. I can't...I can't forget them.

I'm on fire for this fundraiser at our school. They are challenging each block A class to raise as much money as they can. So far our class has $109, but we think we can do better. These grade 9 kids came up with an idea to run a video game tournament at lunch and raise money for the kids, and one kid's dad will hopefully donate a popular game as the prize for us. We're trying to work out the details now. What I'm wondering is if YOU will be willing to help?

Here are ways that you can help:
1. You can donate money. I'm not sure yet if it is tax deductible, but I think we will have something set up. I'll check at the school. Even $5 would be amazing though! If you want to donate, let me know! I would be happy to pass the money on to our school. Our goal is to raise the $13,000 needed to build a school, but I think they will do even better than that!

2. You can donate something for our live auction. The school is having a garage sale and auction on May 24th, and we need people to donate items that can be in the auction. This can be spa packages, books, just anything! Think of those silent auctions you have been to...if you have anything along those lines that you would be willing to donate, contact me!

3. You can donate items for our garage sale. I'm hoping to go through our house-as we are packing things up to make room for the baby-and see what I can find. If you have stuff lying around the house that you don't need anymore, please let me know! I would be happy to take them to our school for the auction.

For all of these things, you can contact me by leaving a comment with your contact information. No comment gets published without me okaying it first, so I will not be putting your personal information up on my blog. Please help us out! I'm so passionate about this. The little boy in the video asking if we would forget him still runs through my mind. I can't forget him, and I can't help but think that $5 is not much to ask. Just $5. Can you spare it???
