I have always been a firm believer in my girlfriends. Even after I was blessed to find the love of my life and become best friends with him, I still knew I needed girlfriends.
I have been blessed to have great friends throughout my life. When I was in high school, there was a solid group of young ladies that, in hindsight, I realized were a huge blessing in my life. I always felt loved and accepted among them, and we have been blessed to be able to stay in touch over the years. I'm heading home at Christmas this year, and I'm so excited for our "Girls Get Together" on the 29th of December. I don't really remember the last time that all of us were together. There are now multiple children, we are ten years removed from high school, and I'm sure we have all changed, yet due to the wonderful world of the Internet we have reconnected and are looking forward to making all of the old junk food we used to love and chatting while we scarf it down and watch the kiddos play. It's so neat to see these girls come back around and become an important part of my life again.
As I went on to university I made some great friends as well. We have spread out around the country, but still remain involved in one another's lives. Some I have lost touch with, which I find sad, but others continue to keep me posted through facebook, emails, phone calls, and other ways of staying in touch.
Now that I live up here and am a mom at home, girlfriends have become that much more important. I remember the first year I lived here. I wondered if I would ever have that solid group of godly women around me that I longed for. Yesterday, I realized that I do. I'm so blessed. I have a best friend that God brought into my life through work. I have a group of ladies that I meet with for coffee that speak wisdom and truth into my life. I have met some incredible women in our church-some of whom I enjoyed a delicious breakfast with yesterday morning-that are moms at home as well, and keep me from being housebound and crazy. I also know some great women from our small group that have been fountains of knowledge as I go through this journey of motherhood, and that encourage me and help me out in countless ways.
Girlfriends are important...we have to have them in life. My husband realizes the value of these ladies. He is always encouraging me to meet up with them, whether it is for coffee, brunch, or a movie. He knows that time with my girls makes for a happy Stacy, which means a happy Kevin and Rusty as well!
I'm so thankful for my girls. If you are one of them and you are reading this, thank you. Thank you for speaking wisdom and truth into my life. Thank you for the hugs. Thank you for the encouraging words. Thank you for meals. Thank you for nap breaks. Thank you for laughter and for tears. Thank you for making me feel loved. Life wouldn't be the same without you!
I'm also glad to have a friend like you Stacy. You have been a blessing to me for many years. I think friendship is something we all, at times forget to be thankful for. Thank you for reminding me what great friends I have. I love you and can't wait for the 29th.
