I'm so excited. The hubby and I are planning a get away. It's only one night...less than 24 hours, actually, but it will be JUST us. It's nothing special. A little trip down to the States, an overnight stay in a regular hotel-hopefully for the rate of $50 with the help of a friend, nothing fancy, nothing special. Did I mention that it will be just us? We might make it to the Olive Garden or somewhere equally delicious. It's not a five star restaurant or anything, but hey...I think I might have mentioned that it will be JUST us! We might venture through the mall, probably not buying anything, but taking our time wandering...possibly even later in the evening...just the two of us. It is possible that we will take in a movie, complete with popcorn, followed by a dessert with way too many calories, because we can.
We have meant to have a just the two of us getaway for some time now. I remember before Rusty was born, I was planning to set a getaway just a few months after he was born. I wasn't factoring how much we would fall in love with him into that equation. How much it would break my heart to be away from him for an afternoon, let alone an entire night. How much we love him and want him to be okay and to know that we will come back. How long it would take us to be comfortable with leaving him with someone other than Mom or Dad. I know that some people do it right away, and good for them. Maybe we will get away faster if we have a second baby, maybe not. Maybe it's the fact that it took us so long to get this baby, that we went through so much to have him in our lives...this feeling that we can't stand to be away from him. That he is a precious gift to us...yet, it's time.
Kevin has spent several nights away from Rusty between my trips home to see my family, work functions, guys' getaways, and other things. Me? I've had one night. One night away from him in 18 months. For a long time, I wasn't ready for it. Finally, in November, I did it...one full year AFTER I declared that I would be away from him...remember that declaration that we would go away in November when he was just a few months old? I laugh at myself in my head when I remember saying that now. The getaway this November was great. I went downtown with my friend Seren. We stayed at the Pan Pacific, we ate good food, I had a tasty drink...I SLEPT ALL NIGHT LONG AND EVEN SLEPT IN THE NEXT MORNING. Bliss! Yet, something was missing...my hubby. (No offense Seren!)
He has offered several times since then for me to get away with another girlfriend, but I kept stalling...I wanted to save the money for a night with him. Just us. No one else. No distractions. No tv, no computer, no phones-okay, okay, OF COURSE we will have our phones on, just in case, but we won't answer them unless it is to do with Rusty.
It will be one night, during his spring break. We will go. We will cross the border. We will check into our hotel room, go for a nice dinner, maybe a movie. We will stay up and eat dessert. We might go in the hot tub. We will sleep...all night! We will sleep in the next morning, have a leisurely breakfast, and then make our way home. We will talk and talk...we always have great conversations in the car. I'm so excited!
Maybe I'm writing about it in hopes that it will happen this time. We have planned it other times and it hasn't happened for one reason or another. We are truly grateful for Rusty's Auntie Lee Lee, who is going to come and spend the night with him, ready to get up with him if he needs it, ready to snuggle him, feed him, and just take care of him. She is great with him, she loves him like he is her own nephew...we know that he will be fine with her. He will be able to sleep in his own bed, have his own comforts. He will be fine. She's a nanny! She knows her stuff.
As for us? We will be just us...just the two of us. We love our munchkin, more than our own lives, but I think that every relationship needs those moments of just the two of us to stay healthy. I can't wait to have ours!

Good for you both!!! Have fun and enjoy that special time together. I don't get that with 3 children but someday it will happen. Go, talk, sleep and be in tune to each other.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time!!
ReplyDeleteYou're so right, every relationship needs lots of "alone" time. Or as much as you can manage / as much as you're able.
ReplyDeleteI am seriously thinking that Jai and I need to budget in (money and time wise) a JUST THE TWO OF US night soon!
Have an awesome time!!!!
