I'm having a tough time sleeping tonight...maybe the new allergy medicine I'm on? Anyway, since I can't sleep, I thought I would do an "I Can't Sleep List." Just a random assortment of things I've been thinking on lately, things I'm loving right now, things I can't get enough of or maybe I have had too much of!
- I love the smell of my little boy. I wish that I could capture it in a bottle and keep it forever so someday, when he is fifteen, and we are having a rough day and he wants nothing to do with his mom and his tennis shoes are stinking up his bedroom I can walk to that bottle, pop the top and inhale that sweet, vanilla oatmeal, still a little bit of a baby smell that I encounter every time I walk into his bedroom. Oh, how I wish I could carry that with me forever.

- I've had a bit too much eye itching this allergy season. Hayfever got the best of me every allergy season as a child growing up on a farm, but when I moved to Canada and into the city I thought I was done with allergies. Little did I know having a child would bring that back times ten! Last year I was dismayed to find that tell tale itching of the eyes coming on again, and next thing I knew, BAM! The allergies had hit again. This year they are even worse, and earlier than normal due to the gorgeous weather we've been having. I remember my dad saying "Don't rub your eyes, it will only make them worse!" but Dad, I'm sorry, I just can't help it! I think I have rubbed them so much lately that I barely have any eyelashes left. They are raw along the eyelids and I basically look like I have been crying half the time. Allergies are so fantastic...I just love the sniffle/sneeze combo. I thought I was genius today when I found a store brand of my allergy medication for half the price. I asked the pharmacist if it was the same thing and if it would keep me up. She assured me it would not...I wonder, as I sit here at 12:30 wide awake and think that the stuff is still in my system. I think I'll be taking that medication back tomorrow and getting the good stuff.
- I love the moment when Kevin arrives home from work. I can be playing a game with Rusty, or perhaps he is in his room playing with his toys or we might be reading a book...it doesn't matter what we are doing, when he hears that door open Rusty stops whatever he is doing, gets a HUGE grin, shouts "Dada!" and runs to the stairs. Rusty cannot get enough of his Daddy lately, and I love it. I remember when Kevin and I used to talk about this. Before we had Rusty and contemplated his birth Kevin always dreamed of coming home from work and having our little munchkin greet him with that joy! It's so wonderful to see those dreams come to reality. Let me tell you, the reality is so much better than the dreams were!

- The cherry trees are blossoming! Although they are probably one of my allergy problems, I still love them. They are just so beautiful. I wish that I could plant one in our yard, just to see it at this time of the year. I love the light, cotton candy pink flowers and the pure, precious white ones. The little flowers are so pretty and smell so good.
- Mmm...coffee. I love coffee. For a long time, I made myself feel bad about it. It wasn't good for me, I told myself. I shouldn't drink it. So many people didn't, and I shouldn't either. Then, I realized how much I love it. I love that kick start it gives to my day. I love the taste of my morning cup with a delicious creamer mixed in. I love the smell of it as it filters throughout my house while it is brewing. It is one of my delicacies, my special treats. A little cup doesn't take that much work, but it brings me so much joy. Mmm...I can't get enough of my coffee lately. I start each day with just one travel mug, and it is enough to get me through the day. My mug is one of those Starbucks travel mugs that keeps it warm just long enough to truly enjoy it. Ah, it's good!
- I can't get enough of my new camera. It was my birthday/Christmas present from my hubby and I am finding such joy in taking photos with it. I only wish I had more time to learn the different settings and to use my photoshop program properly. It is a dream to take a photography class and be able to take even better photos. For now, I just enjoy those pictures that simply turn out!
Allergies! They suck!! I have been developing them slowly over the past few years as well, and have also wondered whether it has something to do with having kids. Crazy.
ReplyDeleteSo you love coffee? You and I have to get together and I can take you to our coffee house here in White Rock. People say it's the best coffee in Vancouver!! I must agree. Nothing tastes as good anymore. :) It helps too, that the place has a kids' play room so it's a more welcoming place than the usual coffee shop.
So, what do you say? :)
If someone could bottle the baby smell they would be a millionaire!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could send you my prescription eye drops - though it's doubtful they'd work for everybody or if they're even for your type of allergies. I have these amazing eye drops that I put in before we visit someone with cats. No itchy, leaky, red, irritated eyes!!
For every parent that works, I bet coming home to a child shouting MAMA / DADA is the best thing in the world. Jai loves it too!
I've never actually seen a cherry tree in person :)
The smell of brewing coffee is awesome! I actually wish I liked coffee taste as much as I like the smell because I really love the ritual of sitting down with a cup of hot something!
The pictures you take with your new camera are terrific!
