Fresh Herbs in Time for Summer

Last night after the little one was in bed and Kev was off to a soccer game Rusty and I had some quality time planting seeds for...my future herb garden!  It is something I have wanted to do for a long time now, and is actually on my 101 Things List.  I had bought some seeds and a starter kit awhile back but just hadn't taken the time to actually plant them.  With summer just around the corner and the sun shining off and on lately, I knew it was time to get into gear and get those seeds going!

Rusty plants a lot of seeds with his Papa, so he is an old pro and loves to help.  We got our starter kit ready to go by adding lots of water to the discs.  I had bought a ready to go kit at Rona one day.  This is my first time doing this, so I thought I should make it as painless as possible.  In the future perhaps I will go with the potting soil etc.  I chose to go with parsley, rosemary, chives, and basil.  They are herbs that we use quite a bit in various things, and I cannot wait to be using them FRESH!  I had a lot of seeds leftover too, so I can plant more in the future!

Once the discs had expanded with the water, we followed the instructions for adding the seeds.  As I said before, Rusty has done this a lot over at Papa's house-Papa is an AMAZING gardener, part of the reason I haven't really been motivated to garden much myself!  Why when you can just walk to Papa's house and get what you need???  Papa has taught him to "pinch in the seeds" so Rusty did a great job with this.

We then patted the soil back over the seeds and hunted for the "warm location that is not in direct sunlight" that the package called for.  Hmm...I wasn't sure where that would be in our house, but finally figured out that the little space between the fridge and cupboards would probably be a good spot!

Hopefully I am right.  We will see if we get some sprouts sometime soon here.  I'm a little nervous but hoping it works out!  Once they sprout I want to transplant them to some cool containers and put them in the windowsills in my kitchen.  My cousin Jayme recently posted a picture she had found of a container garden using old tea tins as the containers.  It was so adorable that I am now craving some old tea tins.  Anyone have some that I could use???
