Eight years ago today I was standing at my kitchen sink, washing the dishes and trying to decide what to make Kevin and I for dinner. I was just a new transplant to this country. I had been here just a few months, moving myself and all of my belongings to Canada to be closer to the love of my life.
The man himself walked in my door. I had my back to him, and I will never forget him walking up behind me and kissing the back of my neck, making me turn around. He was standing there looking handsome, all dressed up and holding a gorgeous bouquet of flowers. He said, "Get dressed up, I'm taking you out for a nice dinner."
I was so excited...I absolutely LOVE surprises, so I was totally surprised to be able to get dressed up. The next thing I knew we were on our way and headed up Grouse Mountain. He had reserved us a table at The Observatory, the beautiful restaurant at the top of the mountain. We had an amazing dinner, wonderful conversation, and enjoyed reminiscing about a year earlier, which had been my first visit to Canada and the point at which we decided to start dating.
After dinner he took me out for a walk. It was cold at the top of the mountain, and there was already a bit of snow. I remember we stood, holding each other and looking out at the beautiful city below us. It was a gorgeous, crisp evening and the city looked stunning. Although I enjoyed the view, I was starting to become colder and colder. Kev asked me to take just one more picture...so I did. When I turned around, there he was, on one knee holding out a ring box. He spoke to me, telling me wonderful things and then asked, would I be his wife?
Of course my answer was yes! I was full of joy, so excited in fact, that I forgot to even look at the ring! I finally did, of course, and it was beautiful. My heart was so full...I was thrilled! I was going to marry my best friend, the true love of my life!
Here we are 8 years later. We have had ups and downs, we have become parents twice over, and we are more in love than ever before. This man never ceases to amaze me and I consider myself so incredibly blessed to be his wife. I thank God for him, and I thank God that he asked, and I said yes!

That is a great story!!
ReplyDeleteBut, not trying to dump on your romance here, you DID know he would be asking you eventually, right? I mean, you moved to Canada to be with him, and I'm assuming you had already talked about marriage. I'm just curious if this was a huge surprise, the proposal.
Awww....I love this! -Britt
