Celebrating American Thanksgiving is probably one of the things I miss the most about living moving to Canada. It isn't the day itself, it is the being with my own family, eating all of our yummy recipes, sharing, laughing, praying, and simply enjoying life together.
My very first year here two sweet friends cooked a Thanksgiving dinner for me on the actual day. The act was so thoughtful that I remember getting a bit teary eyed. Ever since then, I have celebrated it off and on. One year was not a celebration, as I had parent teacher interviews that night. I have put on Thanksgiving dinners for friends, and for family, and last year my dear friend Seren put on a huge dinner for us. This year it was my goal to once again put on an American Thanksgiving dinner for some dear friends here.
Because I am on maternity leave, I was able to have the entire day to prep, and it was wonderful! We had two families join us. The food was delicious-tooting my own horn!-but the company was even better. The night went by too quickly, and although I still really missed my family, it was a blessing to spend the day in thoughtfulness as to all that I am thankful for, to cook, and to enjoy fun times with friends! It also crossed another thing off that 101 Things List!
